There is one classic hairstyle that will hold its own to the end of
time, and that’s the French roll. Sophistication and class, with just a
few bobby pins, is obtained with some simple back combing. Whether you
are off to work or a wedding reception, it’s always in style and
appropriate. It’s a great alternative to a pony tail or pigtails when
you master the art of a 5 second throw up variation of a French roll.
Done with a claw clip and very little effort, you are set for the day.
How To French Braid Hair
The traditional French roll lies on the back of the head and twists
up from the nape of the neck. To do the classic style, you will need a
few tools. Hairspray is actually your friend in this instance. Along
with your bobby pins as closely colored to your hair as possible, you
will need a paddle brush for a smooth effect, and a metal tail comb, as
this is better than a plastic one.
To begin, part the hair down the center to the back. Then back comb
both sides for the smooth effect. Smooth the top and the sides with the
paddle brush to meet in the middle. Use your hair spray to gather any
stray hair and bring into its place. No need for the brush, at this
point use your hands. Draw your hair back with your hands by smoothing
it into your hands and into the nape of your neck. You will then twist
the gathered hair in on itself and upward. The direction really does not
matter as it’s determined by being right or left handed.
Don’t worry about the hair that does not make this twist. It is
manageable in a further step. Keeping it low and tight to the neck is
the secret, rather like a ponytail. Now that it’s twisted, you can hold
the hair with one hand and pin with the other. When you have it pinned
securely, turn loose and take a look at what you have done so far. Using
a small mirror, back up to a larger mirror and take a good look. Now is
the time when you will gather up the loose ends and, taking your metal
tail comb, poke these loose ends into the roll. Pin these securely and
spray as though you are gluing them into place.
For a casual and sexy look, let a few strands cascade down and frame
the face in a soft alluring way. To separate those and add texture, use
some gel or gloss. Remember not to overdo these products. With this
hairstyle, less is more. If your first few attempts seem clumsy, enlist
the aid of a friend and you will soon see you have the hang of it. In
this instance, practice does make perfect. No matter your mood, you will
always be well coifed in a style that is never dated or boring. Your
hair will thank you for the extra attention it receives in doing this
hairstyle.
