Long Hair and the Shape of Your Face

When it comes to getting the perfect haircut, the shape of the face is top priority. Not every cut will work with every facial shape and bone structure. The shape of oval is considered the perfect shape of a face. A stylist will work with your hair in such a way to create the illusion of an oval shaped face. There are several shapes that are representative of your face. There is the oval, square, long rectangular, round, heart, diamond, or pear shaped face. The easiest way to end up with the perfect style is to work with the face shape you have. Striving for the oval is fine to a certain point but do not set your heart on this if it just won’t work for you. Creating your signature look based on you not someone else’s total look is best. When you find models or celebrities having the same shape of face as you, then consider the cut. Consult your stylist. Working together is like bringing art to life. Have fun and feel good about the finished result.

To take a look in your bathroom mirror, begin by pulling your hair away from your face. Have materials, either a book or even an online website, showing the different shapes of faces so you can compare. Select what you feel is best and go from there. As mentioned previously, an oval face is considered perfection. It’s thought to be a balanced face and will work with any hair style you wish to wear. Those with the oval face can, instead, focus on texture and color. Using your hair to bring out oval features is easy to do. A fringe will accent your eyes. Hair swept off the face will balance the nose in your profile. If your hair is curly, that’s fine. It is much easier trying to alter than having to maintain this look. Being natural is the ultimate style, if one can pull it off.

The square face offers a unique opportunity to work with a strong jaw line, and often, a square forehead to match. To offer the illusion of an oval face in working with a square face, there are suggestions that can make for a beautiful look. Let your longer hair fall past your shoulders, leaving a few soft layers or a grown out fringe around the temples. If you enjoy wearing your hair pulled back, you can do this very elegantly by allowing wisps of hair to frame your face in order to soften the look, and make your face appear to have more of an oval shape. Remember, to never allow your stylist to cut your hair in line with the jaw. If you ever wish to go for a shorter look, you may so that with terrific results. Just stay right above or under the jaw line.

A rectangular and long face is also known sometimes as the oblong face. The cheekbones and forehead are normally the same width in this bone structure and often also produce a high forehead and narrow chin. To take this face structure to more of an oval shape, go for the width and shorten the face by creating a fringe right above the eyebrows. A side swept bang can also work very well in shortening the face. Long hair should be kept full and right at the shoulder in order not be dragged down. With long hair, lots of layers are perfect for you. Always remember that volume and width are priorities in finding your perfect look.

The round face is the widest at the cheeks accompanied by a full chin and round hairline at the forehead. To go for the illusion of the oval, try these tips. Slim down the side of the round face by modifying the cut. To do this, keep the cut close to the side of the face and go for height at the top. This will also lengthen the face. Stay away from fringes because they tend to make the face appear smaller and rounder. As always, consider your facial features when working to achieve the oval shape.

The heart shaped face offers so much interest and the challenge to create the illusion of an oval shape is easy to meet with just a few rules to follow. The thing to achieve here is width around the chin. That’s where the heart shape can convert to the oval shape desired. Long hair works best at shoulder length. Then achieve fullness at the chin line with layers and soft waves that work well in creating this look. A side part with hair in a slant also works very well, drawing attention away from the chin. Keep your other facial features in balance by drawing attention to them. Often in this bone structure, the cheek bones are pronounced. Play those up along with your beautiful doe eyes that often accommodate a dramatic flair.

With your diamond shaped face you find the width is about the same with the cheekbones in relation to the chin and forehead, and equally as narrow. To work with diamond shape in creating the oval shape, these tips will have you styling in no time. The great news is, though, most styles will work for you no matter how close you come to the oval shape. To achieve balance with the narrow chin, go for width and fullness in this area. The all time classic bob is the one for you. Keep in mind to have the fullness at all times at the nape of the neck. Keep a fringe wispy and do not go for too much hair. Simple and light, but not too much hair on the face works best.

The pear shaped face is heavy in the jaw and narrow across the forehead. For the pear to transform to the oval, these tips are the way to go. Create a full fringe to balance the jaw. Layers work very well, as does tucking hair behind the ears, to draw attention to them. Long hair with this face shape is not highly recommended. Still, if you wish to try, go with the above tips and work an updo that you can easily maintain and achieve every day.

Being armed with knowledge as well as pictures will serve you well in working with your stylist. Respect their opinion, as they should respect yours. Together, you will come up with the perfect look for the shape of your face. Bone structure is sexy and beautiful. Learn all you can about yours and then play it for all it’s worth. Last, but not least, have fun with your look!
